Skodjebro og Haugtua

Epic adventure that included camping in the Skodjebro (old Skodje bridges) area with fishing for our own supper and on the next day a trip up to Haugtua, followed by a cup of tea at the fabulous Storfjord hotel.

Basically, we just wanted to test the new Salewa -7 sleeping bags, which appear up to the task of keeping us warm and comfortable. Not exactly -7 last night, but seems like they will be OK for a normal Norwegian summer and early autumn.

Fishing in the shallow Heggestraumen sound was a pure gamble, especially when a seal was splashing nearby, but I did get the last confused young cod. Should we actually be hungry, I’d have to keep at it, but since it was more symbolic than anything else, one small cod was all we had that night.

The bridges are illuminated at night, and so were we, two bright spotlights right across the sound from us. Another complaint was the road nearby – the one that goes from the new bridge up to the Digerneset crossing. It’s quite far, but there’s a stone rockface right behind it, so it’s actually pretty loud.

Next day, after tea with things for breakfast, we packed the camp and marched to the car. And just to not leave without actually getting wet, we drove to Glomset and walked up to Haugtua – nice wet trip. (Both our rain coats suck).
