Storhornet på Godøy (497 moh.)

The trip went from the school on the Valkvæ side, up to the Valkvæegga, then on to Sløktind (436 moh.) and up to the Storhornet (497), followed by the pretty steep decent on the other side towards the west end of the Alnesvatnet lake, around the lake and down to Alnes. And then back through the tunnel under the mountain. Pretty epic!

In other news: apparently there is a nest of angry Great Skua (Storjo in Norwegian) parents determined to defend their young or whatever. They employ various assault techniques including but not limited by shouting, flapping of wings and projectile defecating. Good thing we had with us trekking poles (“boomer sticks” as our children lovingly call them) and were able to put up reasonable defense.

Also, when you look from the summit down onto the lake (Alnesvatnet, drinking water source for the entire Giske municipality), it looks much smaller than it actually is, and the bright idea to hike around it – well, let’s say it is rather optimistic. The path is great though. They are curently paving it with flat natural stone (“sherpa-style”, baby!) and it is almost done all the way around, close to the water line.

Descent from Storhornet is steep and scary-ish, but doable, even if you need to convince and sometimes carry a dog.
