Romsdalseggen

As if there isn’t enough written about Romsdalseggen. Just a couple of notes here, then. For myself, mostly.

It is NOT dangerous for anybody without any real impediments. I would dare state that you would need a rather severe fear of heights to be somehow uncomfortable there. Disclaimer: this is not to say you should not use caution, a mountain is still a mountain. There are a couple (at most, three) spots where there’s less than a meter distance from the path to the edge on both sides, but they are, like, 3 meters long. In other words, unless you are actually tripping and falling over by yourself, you should be fine. But again, watch where you are going and be a responsible adult, that goes for any hike that I was ever at.

It should be said that the initial climb from Venjesdal is quite hard – like, you’ll definitely break a sweat. There is a section where you constantly see the boots of the person in front of you – the last couple of hundred meters of elevation before you come up to the ridge, for sure.

If by the western (Åndalsnes) end you feel like your knees are done, there’s an option to skip the descent and stay up on the mountain no, actually, to take the gondola down to near the railway station. It is not cheap and you would miss a nice (very cultivated and popular) trail and a viewpoint (Rampestreken). Pro tip: the ramp itself will be crowded, almost regardless the season, because it is relatively easily accessible from the other end. If you don’t want to queue up to take a selfie from the platform, just some meters over it, there are some boulders that work even better. Just again – don’t fall over, or don’t blame me if you do.

Definitely would do this one again, superb hike.
